Remembering the Saints and Praying for Our Beloved Departed

All Saints’ Day reminds us of the beautiful promise of our Christian faith: we are all called to holiness and eternal life with God. The saints are not simply people of the past; they are examples of faith, love, forgiveness, and perseverance. Through their lives, they show us that holiness is possible in our everyday lives through prayer, kindness, sacrifice, and service to others. Jesus tells us in the Beatitudes, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God” (Matthew 5:8). The saints lived these teachings in different ways, but they all shared one desire: to love God and their neighbors faithfully. We, too, are invited to follow their example and become saints in our homes, families, workplaces, and communities. As we remember All Saints’ Day, we also turn our hearts toward All Souls’ Day, when we pray for our beloved departed. We remember our parents, brothers and sisters, relatives, friends, and all those who have gone before us in faith. Although we experience the pain of separation, our Christin hope assures us that death is not the end. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we believe that eternal life is promised to all who trust in Him. Let us continue to pray for our departed loved ones and entrust them to the loving mercy of God. Our prayers express our love and strengthen our hope in the resurrection. May we also remember that one day we, too, will be called home to the Lord. As a parish family, let us celebrate these holy days with faith and devotion. •Monday, November 2: At 8:30 a.m. Mass at Valhalla Funeral Home, followed by the blessing of the graves. At 12 noon, Mass at the church for All Souls’ Day, followed by the blessing of the All-Souls Altar. •First Friday: At 12 noon, Holy Mass with the Anointing of the Sick. Lunch will be served afterward. Let us pray especially for those who are sick, suffering or in need of God’s healing grace. •First Saturday: At 7:30 a.m., the Holy Rosary, followed by Mass at 8:00 a.m. in honor of our Blessed Mother Mary. May the saints inspire us, may our prayers bring comfort and hope, and may our Blessed Mother lead us closer to her Son, Jesus Christ. Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the witness of all the saints who inspire us to live holy lives. Remember with mercy our beloved departed and welcome them into Your eternal kingdom. Comfort those who mourn, strengthen those who are sick, and help us live each day in faith, hope, and love. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Love and Prayers, Father Charley
